PNG is a useful image format when you want a crisp raster version of a PDF page. It is often a good choice for diagrams, screenshots and pages where sharp text edges matter.
Start with the right input
PNG uses lossless compression, which can preserve the pixels generated during rendering. The trade-off is file size: a photographic PDF page can produce a much larger PNG than a JPG.
What affects the result?
Choose PNG when clarity and lossless output matter more than minimum file size. For ordinary document previews or photographs, JPG may be smaller. If the resulting PNG is too large, resize or compress it before sharing.
A practical workflow
As with PDF-to-JPG conversion, each PDF page becomes an image. Text is no longer directly selectable in the PNG. Keep the original PDF when you need the document’s searchable or editable properties.
ToolVero and file handling
ToolVero’s PDF to PNG tool renders supported PDF pages in the browser. Large PDFs can require substantial memory, so smaller batches may be more reliable on mobile devices.
Quick checklist
- Choose PNG when
- You need crisp graphics.
- You want lossless image output.
- Transparency is relevant to the next workflow.
- File size is less important than pixel fidelity.
