PDF Troubleshooting Guide

A problem-first checklist for common PDF failures and recovery options.

Start by identifying the failure

“The PDF does not work” can describe several different problems: the file may not open, it may open with missing pages, an upload portal may reject its size, a conversion may lose formatting, or a password prompt may block access. Treat those as different problems instead of applying the same fix to all of them.

If the PDF will not open

Try another reputable PDF viewer and, if the file came from a download or email, obtain a fresh copy first. An interrupted download can look like document corruption. If multiple viewers fail, PDF Repair can attempt structural recovery.

If the PDF is too large to upload

Check the portal's exact size limit. If the document contains unnecessary pages, extract or delete them first. Then use Compress PDF and inspect the output instead of assuming the smallest file is automatically the best file.

If conversion looks wrong

Scanned PDFs, unusual fonts, forms and complex layouts do not behave like simple text PDFs. If you only need a visual copy of each page, PDF to JPG or PDF to PNG may be more predictable than an editable conversion, but image conversion removes selectable text and interactive document features.

If only some pages are needed

Use Extract PDF Pages to make one new file from selected pages, or Split PDF when the document should be divided into multiple ranges.

If the PDF is password protected

Use Unlock PDF when you know the password and are authorized to remove protection. ToolVero's password checker is intended for a password candidate you already have in mind; it is not an unknown-password cracking service.
