A Privacy-First Smallpdf Alternative for Local PDF Tasks
ToolVero focuses on free, no-account browser workflows for routine PDF jobs. This page compares the products without pretending they have identical features, infrastructure or certifications.
ToolVero vs Smallpdf
| Area | ToolVero | Smallpdf |
|---|---|---|
| Selected-file processing | Supported tools such as Merge PDF, Compress PDF and PDF Metadata Editor process the selected document locally in the browser. Website assets and advertising can still make separate network requests. | Smallpdf's official tool pages instruct users to upload documents and state that server-processed files are protected with TLS and normally deleted after one hour. |
| Free-use limits | No account or daily task quota is enforced on core public tools. Per-run file, page and memory limits protect browser stability. | Smallpdf's official pricing page describes limited document downloads on the free plan. |
| Batch workflow | Merge up to 50 PDFs or choose a folder, subject to a 100 MB total browser-stability limit. | Smallpdf's official Free vs Pro comparison lists batch processing as a Pro feature. |
| Compression | Structural optimization and image-only scanned-PDF presets are free. Results vary by document; ToolVero does not promise impossible lossless reductions. | Smallpdf's official comparison places strong compression in Pro. |
| OCR | Browser OCR is available through the Image to Text tool. PDF compression itself does not add OCR text. | Smallpdf states that OCR access is available with Pro for relevant conversion tools. |
| Offline use | After one successful online visit, the installed PWA caches a core set including Merge PDF, structural Compress PDF, PDF Metadata Editor, Word Counter and JSON Formatter. Some CDN-dependent or scanned-PDF features still need a connection. | Smallpdf provides web, desktop and mobile products. Its online tools use an upload workflow; capabilities of installed apps are separate from this web comparison. |
| Formal security program | Public technical evidence and external directory badges are documented in the Trust Center; no ISO certification is claimed. | Smallpdf publishes an ISO/IEC 27001 claim and security controls in its Trust Center. |
Where ToolVero is the better fit
Confidential everyday documents
Merge, organize or clean common metadata without sending the selected PDF to a ToolVero processing server. Always follow your organization's document-handling policy.
High-volume occasional batches
Select files over several rounds, choose a folder or drop up to 50 PDFs into the merger without an account or daily quota.
Low-connectivity work
Install the PWA and revisit cached core tools when the connection is unreliable. Initial installation and uncached features require internet access.
What ToolVero does not claim
- ToolVero is not a full replacement for enterprise document management, team workflows or certificate-backed digital-signature platforms.
- The Sign PDF tool adds a visual electronic signature; it does not create a cryptographic PAdES signature.
- Brotli is not presented as a magic PDF compressor, and no fixed 85–95% lossless reduction is promised.
- Cleaning common PDF document-info fields does not guarantee removal of every XMP packet, attachment, hidden layer or embedded-image EXIF record.
