How to Watermark Selected PDF Pages
Add a text or logo watermark to selected PDF pages. Follow tested page-range examples with source files, settings and output previews.
Mark a test copy before sharing
Use a short label such as DRAFT and start with a moderate opacity. Preview the exported PDF on both a sparse page and a dense page. A watermark can cover important content even when it looks subtle on a mostly blank page.
Select pages deliberately
Choose all, odd, even or a selected range according to your task. Use physical PDF page positions rather than the printed page numbers. If the document order needs to change, use Organize PDF Pages before applying the watermark.
A watermark is not access control
A visible label does not encrypt the file or securely redact text beneath it. Use Protect PDF for password encryption when appropriate. Inspect the final saved copy before distributing it; keep the unmarked original.
Example: a logo on pages 2 and 5 only
Download the six-page sample and DEMO logo. Choose Image, select the logo, set Pages to Selected range and enter 2,5. Use bottom-right placement, opacity 0.35 and rotation 0.
Compare your download with the matching watermarked PDF. Pages 1, 3, 4 and 6 should be unmarked. See the visual watermark settings walkthrough for all-page previews and a text watermark example.

Mark selected pages with text or a logo
For a draft sent for review, use Text, enter DRAFT, and start with moderate opacity on one dense page. For a logo, choose Image and inspect the saved PDF at normal reading size: small text should remain legible beneath the mark. Set page selection before saving so you do not mark a cover or attachment unintentionally.
Page ranges refer to positions in the PDF, starting at 1, even when printed page numbers are absent or different. If a cover moves, check the selection again. A watermark is a visible annotation; it is not redaction or access control.
Try pages 1–3 and 5
Download the six-page sample. Enter DRAFT, use opacity 0.22 and font size 48 as starting points, choose Selected range and enter 1-3,5. After downloading, confirm pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 are marked while pages 4 and 6 are clear.
Read the illustrated page-selection walkthrough for a complete example and settings checklist.
Review the downloaded copy
- Page selection uses PDF positions starting at 1, even if a cover has no printed number.
- All pages, Odd pages and Even pages ignore the custom range; select Selected range to use it.
- Check portrait and landscape pages so the watermark does not obscure useful content.
- If the result message says a visual fallback was used, pages were rebuilt as images and interactive features may be lost.
Frequently asked questions
What does opacity change?
Lower opacity makes the watermark lighter. Start at 0.22 and inspect a dense page; the best value depends on your document.
Can a watermark stop someone copying a PDF?
No. It communicates status or ownership. Use Protect PDF when password-based access protection is required.
How do I change or remove the watermark?
Start again with your unmarked original. This tool adds marks and does not provide a guaranteed removal operation.
